Let's Talk about "Money"

I want to start with Money only because I listed it first, not because it is any more or less important than any of the other topics that will be discussed. Well, if I knew then what I know now.... This is a fundamental discussion.

There will probably be a fundamental difference between the two individuals that will be getting married. One person will be a free spirit and will want to be able to work hard, play hard and spend hard, in other words, ready, fire, aim when it comes to spending. The other will be more frugal and want to have a full on board meeting and look at everything several times and do a comparative analysis (LOL!) before making a decision about any expenditure.

So what should a couple discuss?

1. Wedding/Honeymoon Budget

2. Credit Scores

3. Outstanding Debts to be merged

4. Bills - once married

5. Purchases, who, what, when, where, why? Prioritization by $ amount.

6. Bank account or accounts - Joint and/or individual.

7. Savings

8. Spending Style

This is a major discussion to have even if it is a painful so that it will not, as is often the case, derail the marriage before it can even get started.

Have this talk, before you take the walk.

Until the next time.....
